Item Description
This dramatic and very unusual style large calcite looks just like a stand of snow-covered Christmas trees! Striking stacked tapered stepped-growth translucent nailhead rhombs with shimmering luster form the stunning "trees". Two much larger nailhead rhombs off to one side and the surprising preferential iron oxide tinting on the back side are a super accents. Interesting fluid flow and crystal chemistry here. This fantastic pristine old-time calcite is from the famous Stank Mine. The iron mine was only active from 1871-1901, but still produced some very fine calcites, such as this exceptional and rare example. From an East Coast collection and comes with a faded and torn century-old label. Valued at $1000-1250. A unique style Stank Mine calcite.
