Item Description

A stunning, colorful and highly unusual OLD-TIME tourmaline from the famous Himalaya Mine. This is a striking bi-colored, doubly terminated, parallel-growth crystal cluster. The crystals are glassy, lustrous, well-striated and have fine translucence. The very glassy, water-clear, polycrystalline pinacoidal termination is a beautiful light apple-green, with the underlying pink richly showing through. The mid-section is a glorious, rich "Himalaya pink". The striking glassy/gemmy, olive-green basal termination has surreal, dense, "cityscape" architecture. Amazingly, there are very few broken tips here. The pink GLOWS, when backlit! Complete all-around essentially pristine. Contacting, with bits of attached feldspar and tiny tourmalines are noted, but there is little actual damage. An OUTSTANDING and unusual old-time tourmaline from the Dorothy Craig and Kay Robertson Collection # 3315. Kay acquired this super piece from The Bradleys in February, 1964! Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record). 128 grams mass. Value of such a rare style old-timer we feel is in the $1750-2000 range.
