Unusual Baryte (New Mexico) Willard Wulff Coll.

Item Description

An unusual , sculptural small cabinet barite specimen from the extinct Juanita Mine, near the famous Kelly Mine. All sides of this striking sculptural V-shaped specimen are covered with yellow-brown or red oxide-tinted thin paper barite crystal plates, to 2.0 cm. A few glassy, colorless tabular calcite plates on one side are a nice accent. The Juanita closed in 1937. Mineral specimens are RARE from the Juanita Mine compared to the prolific Kelly Mine. Willard Wulff (died 1998), a well-known avid Colorado field collector, assembled a fine collection and probably collected this fine piece in the 1950s or 60s. Willard mislabeled the specimen as Wulfenite. We did not recognize the mislabel until after we originally posted the piece. A MUST for the species or New Mexico collector!
