"Umbalite" Garnet

Umbalite is the trade name designated for pink to purple gem quality Garnets from the Umba Valley in Tanzania. These gems are not defined as a single species or variety of Garnet, but when analzyed show they contain a mix of Pyrope, Almandine, Spessartine and occasionally Grossular Garnet. The famed "Malaya" Garnets from Tanzania are similar in the sense that they contain two or more species in the same stone. This stone is a wonderful example of Umbalite featuring a lovely soft pink hue, eye clean clarity and a wonderful "round brilliant" cut.
