Item Description
Umbalite is not a specific species of Garnet, but rather a trade name designated for pink to purple gem quality Garnets from the Umba Valley in Tanzania. These attractive gems are not limited to a single species or variety of Garnet, and analysis they contain a mix of Pyrope, Almandine, Spessartine and occasionally Grossular Garnet. The famed "Malaya" Garnets from Tanzania are similar in the sense that they contain two or more species within the same stone. This stone is a wonderful example of Umbalite featuring a lovely soft pink hue, eye clean clarity and a wonderful "Oval Brilliant" cut.
