Two-toned Calcite

Item Description

Glassy, transparent to translucent, two-toned, calcite crystals cover the matrix on this striking and excellent large specimen from recent Chinese finds. The calcites are highly modified scalenohedrons with striated, three-sided, pyramidal terminations. They look like some classic Egremont calcites. Very interestingly, some crystals are colorless, gem-like, while other nearby crystals are preferentially included with iron-rich oxides. The visual color variation is beautiful and noteworthy. The vuggy specimen is in outstanding condition, for such dense coverage.
