Item Description
Smoky quartz specimens are seldom available from this more obscure Swiss locale and this is a fine example. This classic and beautiful Alpine smoky quartz gwindel has rich smoky color, which is enhanced by the extreme transparency and luster of the specimen. Technically this is a half "open" and half "closed" gwindel. One termination edge has comb-like serrations, while the other end has the serrated edges grown together into one single, apparent, termination of unusual habit for quartz. It is also, a twisted quartz, or gwindel by the traditional term for them. The twist is subtle on this piece. The contrast of both an open and closed side terminations is unique. The frontal view is nearly pristine, with only very trivial edge wear to the closed end. Contacting, with almost no bruising, is noted along the base of both sidesThe color, transparency and luster on this very fine textbook crystal is also exceptional. Ex Gene Meieran Collection. An excellent and rare gwindel from an uncommon Swiss locale. Valued at $750-1000. MUCH BETTER IN PERSON. This is a small but subtle Alpine classic, and would be hard to replicate for its combination of qualities.
