Item Description
A classic and beautiful Alpine smoky quartz gwindel from Switzerland. The color is deep smoky and it is enhanced by the extreme transparency and luster of the specimen. Technically this is an "open" gwindel, with both termination edges having comb-like serrations, although one end is nearly "closed," where the serrated edges grow together into one single, apparent, termination of unusual habit for quartz. It is also, obviously, a twisted quartz, or gwindel by the traditional term for them. The twist is obvious and dramatic. The contrast of both an open and closed side terminations is unique. The frontal view is nearly pristine, with only very trivial edgewear at one end. The color, transparency and luster on this very fine textbook crystal is also exceptional. Ex Howard Belsky Collection. An outstanding gwindel his extensive Alpine quartz collection. Valued at $2000. MUCH BETTER IN PERSON. This is a small but subtle Alpine classic, and would be hard to replicate for its combination of qualities.
