Item Description

This sculptural small cabinet includes classic twinned calcite crystals. Fine-grained sandstone has richly included/replaced the artistic specimen of calcite scalenohedrons from a defunct South Dakota locale, Rattlesnake Butte (Devils Hill) near Interior. The crystals grew in the Miocene sand matrix. A striking 360-degree specimen, with only a few out-of-sight contacts or broken crystals on the back or base. Older material, collected in the 1960s and 70s and seldom seen today.
