Item Description
A striking synthetic, lab-made gem quartz crystal used for the telecommunications industry. This rarity is from Bell Labs of New Jersey and was formerly in the George Elling Collection. Unlike most such pieces, it is actually beautiful and preserved without damage or cutting, so you can see how the growth of the lab crystals has been constrained and formed. The crystal has water-clear (1) to fabulously scalloped (2) to lightly scalloped sides (1) which gives an interesting textural diversity to the faces. And the modifield corners on the front and unusual termination faces add even more character. Metal pins at the ends held the natural quartz seed plate used to start the crystal and connect it to electrodes. Hence, this is a contact twin. Rarely on the market in such size and beauty! Valued $500-700.
