Item Description

Splendent, sharp, twinned, cassiterite crystals cover the solid cassiterite matrix on this very showy and uncommon specimen from the famous Siglo XX Mine of Bolivia. Seldom are cassiterites of any quality available from this noted locale. Most fine Bolivian cassiterites come from the Viloco Mine in La Paz Department. The crystals reach 2.0 cm. Some crystals are quite gemmy in a rich golden-amber, while others are opaque. Modest periphery wear is noted, but has minimal impact on this rare and excellent specimen from a historic locale. Ex Ed Bancroft Collection.
