Item Description

This specimen is part of the 2021 Dallas Mineral Collecting Symposium benefit auction, with proceeds benefiting Mineralogical Record, Rocks & Minerals, Tucson Gem and Mineral Society, and mindat.org. Thanks to all of our participants!

A significant American-origin turquoise with impeccable provenance to the Houran collection, and attributed to the famous Turquoise Mountain district near Bisbee in Cochise County, making this an important USA specimen for the collector as well as the lapidarist. It is from the collection of historic American lapidary and gem material assembled over decades by (mineral and gem) collector Jim Houran, donated to the Symposium auction. At 527 carats (approx 105 grams) this is a fine and complete nodule of carving quality turquoise.
