Turquoise (new find!)

Recently we've seen some interesting material coming out of Indonesia, including a few items which have some beautiful colors due to copper content. Most of this material is either native copper, or copper silicates, but our friend in Java secured a small parcel of these beautiful new Turquoise specimens. It's not unheard of to find a copper phosphate like Turquoise among copper silicate minerals, like Chrysocolla, etc. You see the same thing from Arizona and New Mexico. These new Turquoise pieces are richly colored and show beautiful patterns when they're polished. I would say the color is close to the old classic "Persian" Turquoise from many years ago. This particular piece is a polished nugget with excellent consistency of color (no discoloration or white steaks) with thin dark lines from the host rock, which almost look like black lighting bolts shooting through the specimen. Beautiful color and quality, and it would make a great addition to any suite of copper-bearing minerals, specimens from Southeast Asia, or worldwide Turquoise. This piece was literally mined a few months ago, and we're hoping to see more, but you never know how big a deposit will be and how long it will last. Specimen weight is 14.09 grams.
