Item Description

The term Turgite is used for a mixture of iridescent Goethite and Hematite, but it is important to note that this is not actually a valid mineral species. Some of the best known Turgite specimens from any locality in the Western Hemisphere are the pieces from Graves Mountain, Georgia. Their unique appearance and coloration make for some interesting and eye-catching specimen. This small cabinet hosts somewhat botryoidal growths along with amorphous forms of Goethite / Hematite that have a rainbow iridescence showing wonderful shades of pink, orange, yellow, green, aqua, indigo and purple. A classic specimen of this well-known material from what is certainly one of the top specimen producing localities in Georgia.
