Item Description
Three striking radial sprays, to 1.3 cm, of silky luster acicular golden-brown Tuperssuatsiaite crystals are very aesthetically set in the dramatically well-placed, sculptural 4.5 cm vug in the sawed phonolite matrix. Another vug hosts smaller sprays as a bonus. Tuperssuatsiaite is a VERY RARE hydrated Na-Fe-Mn-silicate and the finest examples of the species come from the two quarries here. Phonolite is an unusual extrusive alkaline igneous rock. Very difficult to collect in this exceptional matrix quality due to the extreme hardness of the host rock. Ex Kurt Hefendehl Collection. Records show that he paid 450 Euros for the piece and these have not come out this good in a long time! The sprays are in the protected vug, so this outstanding matrix specimen is shippable.
