Item Description
Triplite is an uncommon manganese phosphate that has been known for a couple hundred years, yet good specimens are rarely seen on the market. This piece is from the lesser known El Criollo Mine in Argentina. It's the first specimen of this material that we've ever had to offer in the auctions. The piece shows a very rich reddish-brown hue with a vitreous / resinous luster on several sides. I've only seen a few other photos of this material, never one in person before, and this piece compares equally to the few others I've seen. If you collect rarities, phosphates or South American minerals, don't miss out on this one. From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016). David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered.
