Item Description

Hexagonite is the rare manganoan variety of tremolite and is distinguished by its lilac to purple color. It is only found in two counties in New York. Hexagonite was supposedly a hexagonal form of tremolite, but was shown to be monoclinic. Two, gem, lilac crystals to 1.0 cm on jauntily set in the waxy luster, foliated matrix of needles and lathes. A showy, highly representative example of the rare species and locale. Ex Eric Anderson Collection.
