Item Description
Tremolite is an amphibole group metamorphic species found in the contact metamorphism of Ca-Mg siliceous sediments, regional greenschist metamorphism of ultramafic rocks or magnesium carbonate rocks. This large sculptural piece consists entirely of lustrous, translucent, gray-green prisms in a jackstraw pattern. The large crystal is 4.5 cm. This showy and excellent large piece is from an obscure New York roadcut locale. Specimens from here are actually quite uncommon. Ex Schlichter Collection.
