Tremolite in Talc

Item Description

Several lime-green Tremolite crystals are partially encased in a fine-grained matrix of pearly, off-white Talc in this piece from an obscure locality in Pakistan. The bladed, prismatic Tremolite crystals are transparent to translucent and vary in size from 2.5 to 4.3 cm in length and are from a few millimeters to 1.3 cm in width. The more prominent, 3.3 cm crystal toward the center of the piece is very gemmy and has a lovely lime-green color very similar to Peridot. Several other Tremolite crystals are present with many of them almost completely enveloped in the highly contrasting Talc schist matrix. This is a very good and colorful example of Tremolite from a metamorphic environment that we rarely see. We could not recall seeign another specimen like this, with the talc matrix remaining attached, although we have seen numerous loose tremolites from here.
