Item Description

Tremolite is an amphibole species that is often found in thin / acicular crystals that are typically not gem quality. There are a handful of localities in upstate New York around Gouverneur / North Gouverneur which produce some of the finest GEM quality Tremolite crystals ever found. This stone hails from the lesser known Hall Farm locality. Unlike the better known specimens from the Gouverneur Mine (which are purple), this stone has a silvery-green hue. The stone is not completely transparent, but it's truly the biggest and best I've seen from Hall Farm. It shows a wonderful internal chatoyance when rotated in the light. If you collect unusual rare stones or gems from the East Coast, this is a perfect opportunity to pick up something that is rarely offered for sale on the market. From the collection of Dr. James "Jim" Houran, noted thumbnail mineral collector, gemstone collector and a speaker at our annual Dallas Mineral Symposium. Jim is the Managing Director of AETHOS Consulting Group. He's a 25-year veteran in applied psychological research and a published expert on peak performance, online testing and interpersonal and organizational compatibility. He has authored over 150 articles, and his award-winning work has been profiled by a myriad of media outlets and programs including the Discovery Channel, A&E, BBC, National Geographic, NBC’s Today Show, USA Today, New Scientist, Psychology Today and Forbes.com.
