Item Description
An impressive, dense jackstraw cluster of very glassy, translucent, striated gray Tremolite prisms, to 5.6 cm with a contrasting calcite seam dramatically fills a sculptural large vein from an unknown locality in the famous Bancroft area of Ontario. Comes with an Alfred Stevenson label listing Tory Hill as the locality. mindat does not list Tremolite for Tory Hill. Stevenson is known to have collected in the Bancroft area in the 1960s and probably did not want to divulge the true locality. Several localities in the area have similar looking tremolite and calcite combinations. Ex Richard Rossi Collection. Richard is a Senior Fellow of the Mineralogical Record. An exceptional, very rich and showy large combination from the renowned area.
