Tourmaline with Quartz

Stunning and colorful large 13.8 cm tapered fan-shaped section of a well-striated, lustrous, pretty variable pink, opaque rubellite tourmaline aesthetically encased in massive quartz. An impressive, large and uncommon specimen from this classic old pegmatite in the well-known Oxford pegmatite field of Maine. Mass is 2489 grams or 5.5 pounds. Ex George Loud Collection No. 2032 and acquired in 1994 directly from the McRillis family of mine owners. George is a well-known Washington, DC and South Carolina mineral collector. Classic and very showy large tourmaline and quartz from the noted Maine locale. Note this is a rather massive, rough specimen....not with sharp edges; and yet it is impressive. An old classic.
