Item Description
A dramatic and very aesthetic CABINET tourmaline cluster from early-2000s finds at the famous Pederneira Mine. This gemmy and lustrous, polychrome beauty is double terminated and is strikingly accented by the crossed tourmaline crystal, a euhedral albite crystal (unusual!) and a scattering of pink lepidolite crystals at one termination. The bodies of the two crystals range from a gorgeous teal-blue to emerald-green to multiple shades of green. The 3-sided, pyramidal termination is pristine, highly lustrous, frosted and black. The bottom termination is partially frosted, and very etched but complete. The lepidolites and the albite crystal are a super compliment. The multiple very clean repairs and broken tips on the crossed tourmaline are noted, but have absolutely minimal impact on the overall quality of this beautiful large piece in context. There seem to be 5 repairs on this piece, 1 in the sidecar and 4 on the main stalk. Nearly all large tourmalines from this mine are repaired, and if not, are valued accordingly - very expensive. So given the repairs, and that nearly all such size pieces from here have them, I can accept multiple repairs in a Ped tourmaline where I would not in one of Afghani style or from some other mines in Brazil where tourmaline is recovered more easily in unrepaired specimens. Fairly valued for size, gemminess, colors and outstanding aesthetics at $2000-2500
