Item Description
An impressive large bi-colored tourmaline from the famous Himalaya Mine. This lustrous, translucent and striated crystal is a doubly terminated floater and is slightly bent from pocket forces during growth. A gorgeous, 7 mm, apple-green zone lies beneath the lustrous, matte-black, primary termination. The 3.0 cm, classic, glassy, "Himalaya pink" zone is underlain by bottle-green and olive-green at the base. The basal termination is (typically) pitted, and a matte-olive green. It is best displayed standing up, in any case. The embedded, snow-white cleavelandite blades on two sides of the textbook 3-sided crystal are a super accent. Complete all-around and pristine, with one side by the cleavelandite having some contacting, but no damage, per se. A fine large, older example from this renowned locale. 270 grams mass, this is no lightweight! A classic from the older Himalaya Mining period, prior to Pala mining in the 1970s. Valued at $2000-2500.
