Item Description

The Malkhan pegmatite field is located southeast of Lake Baikal in Russia, and in recent years has been the source of some beautiful and fine quality Tourmaline crystals, predominantly fine "Rubellite" specimens. This piece is a good representative association specimen featuring a polychrome Tourmaline crystal measuring 4.1 cm across with a vivid reddish-pink basalt termination that grades into a nearly black (very dark golden) hue associated with bladed off-white colored crystals of Albite (var: Cleavelandite) and a single Smoky Quartz crystal flaring off the side. The piece is in very good shape on the front/display side, but it's contacted on the back where it was removed from the pocket wall. Keep in mind that a lot of the Tourmalines from this locality are loose singles off matrix, so to find a piece with Albite and Smoky Quartz is certainly uncommon. Retail on this piece is $1,400.
