Item Description
This hefty crystal is 360 grams of the classic multicolored liddicoatite tourmaline that is found at its best from Madagascar. It is an older piece, long in the Robert Whitmore collection. The termination and display faces are complete. It just has a small portion missing on the back from an outgrowth of the main crystal. From below you can look up and see that the interior is green (as many of these are), covered by a 6mm-thick-rind of pink tourmaline. Subtle colorations abound in that layer. When sliced, these can go for $200-1000 per slice, depending on the complexity shown inside, and the color. This would certainly cut a number of slices (8 quarter-inch-thcik slices could be done easily) and is probably worth more if I cut it up and auction the slices, but I would prefer to keep it whole!
