Tourmaline var. Elbaite (TYPE LOCALITY) on Quartz

A member of the Tourmaline group, Elbaites from Elba, the TYPE LOCALITY, are known worldwide, and considered classics. As a rule, these Elbaites tend to be smallish in stature, but certainly not in reputation. Attached to a well-developed Quartz crystal are pink and pink/green Elbaites, 1 cm and 1.3 cm in size, respectively. The prism faces are striated and highly lustrous, and the crystals are at least partially terminated. Nicely representing this famous locality, miniatures or any good specimen from Elba are simply hard to come by. These pieces are part of a century-old Italian collection that was recently acquired. A displayable miniature with a lot of historic significance, for the locality.
