Beautiful and rare, this gemmy, bi-colored Elbaite is probably from one of the small pegmatites in the Piaui Valley, Taquaral, Itinga area. The glassy, well-formed termination is a rich, rose-pink color that is totally gemmy. The internal crazing makes is sparkle like you wouldn't believe, and the beauty of it is transfixing. The crystal grades into a deep, greenish teal towards the base. It masses 16 grams. With such a good termination, and such good luster, this is a very fine, representative Tourmaline from this pegmatite district in the famous state of Minas Gerais. Previously in the collection of Mike Ridding of Santa Barbara, and with an older label as well. I would guess this dates to the 1960s or 1970s.
