Tourmaline (unique multicolor group)

Just when you think you’ve seen every color combination and form for Tourmaline in existence, a piece like this comes along. This is certainly a unique Tourmaline to say the least. The color is both soft and intense at the same while, while showing a near rainbow effect with colors ranging from pink to green to yellow to blue. The terminations of many crystals show a noteworthy "blue cap", and many of them are even doubly-terminated! The piece has no matrix per se, but rather is a built up group of Tourmaline crystals sitting atop other smaller Tourmaline crystals. Some of the little crystals are so small, they’re essentially colorless "needles" that are holding up the bigger crystals. The main group of crystals on the front of the specimen measures 5.7 cm long. It’s nearly a "floater" specimen as it’s crystallized 90% of the way around, with only one point of attachment on the back portion of the piece. Even though the colors are pastel in nature, they have strong color "depth" if that makes sense. There are countless Tourmalines from Afghanistan on the market and in private collections, but a piece like this is not only different, but a great change of pace from what we’re used to seeing from places like Paprok. Additionally, Tourmalines from this are often feature one or two predominant prisms, and are almost never seen in intergrown groups of parallel-growth prisms like this.
