Tourmaline (ex Halpern collection)

Item Description

This robust, well developed crystal shows the characteristic style of termination that screams "Malkhans" at you as a collector, and these have been classics since antiquity (they used to be called Siberite, in fact, after the far province of Russia). It has superb maroon-red color, a great inner brilliance to it (whereas some can be dull), and the symmetry is really balanced for display as a full miniature. We are honored to present another lot of deaccessions to auction from the collection of Jack Halpern of San Francisco, as featured in the Mineralogical Record, March 2005. 109 grams. This is a stunning specimen, and finding truly impactful miniatures of this material is simply difficult. Jack paid $1400 for this, many years ago, and we think it worth double and more.
