Item Description
Colorado is known for a lot of colorful and attractive mineral species, but Tourmaline is not one of those minerals that is commonly associated with the Centennial State. The Brown Derby Mine is the best known locality in Colorado for Tourmaline specimens. Even though it is one of Colorado's major Li-Be mines, it's also rare-earth element locality as well. This piece features a good coverage of partial crystals of pink and green striated, prims of Elbaite Tourmaline associated with minor purple "Lepidolite" Mica and Quartz on matrix. The Tourmaline are contacted, so they're not pristine, but it's incredibly difficult to find undamaged examples from this locality. You don't see many of these on the market anymore, and if you collect Colorado minerals or worldwide Tourmalines, it's a great piece for any collector who still needs one of these to check that box in their collection. From the collection of Brian Kosnar.
