RARE green tourmaline from the renowned Jonas Mine which most people dfo not realized actually DID produce a few other tourmaline pockets that simply were not red, which is why people were still poking around the hill years later. This impressive 360-degee lustrous, well-striated, trigonal, parallel-growth crystal is dramatically accented with multiple matte terminations. The crystal appears to be nearly black with grass-green areas, BUT backlighting reveals that MUCH of the crystal has rich green gemmy translucence! In 1978, the Jonas Mine produced what is arguably the most famous single pocket of tourmaline crystals of all time (or one of two if you also count the San Diego, California blue-caps in 1972). Complete all-around and in excellent shape. The terminations have only trival, hard-to-see bruising and the few scattered broken terminations to lower side car crystals are certainly only a modest detraction. Ex Chet Lemanski Collection and acquired in 1996 from an older collection. 119 grams mass. The Jonas Mine did produce some fine green tourmalines, but they are VERY RARE and seldom on the market today. A choice, fine example.
