Tourmaline (rare color for the locality) on Quartz

Item Description

The Himalaya Mine in San Diego County, California is the one of the great classic Tourmaline localities in the United States. The majority of the Tourmalines from this mine are predominantly pink in color, but this specimen is a rarity as it features a prismatic trigonal crystal measuring 2.7 cm showing a mixture of rich blue and green hues, sitting at the base of a slightly smoky colored, group of sharp, lustrous Quartz crystals. Additional Tourmalines and bit of Albite can be seen on the side of the piece for a nice touch. The piece is UN-repaired, which is significant for the locality as most of the matrix on the market specimens have been repaired at least once. Additionally, the piece is in great shape, with no major damage I can see, save the base where it was separated from the pocket wall. The back of the Quartz crystal has as separation mark where it was presumably attached to an additional Quartz crystal, but it's partially re-crystallized ("re-healed"), so it's largely complete all around. A really cool and showy specimen from this historic mine. Valued $2,000.
