Item Description

Tourmaline is a diverse and highly colorful gem. Not only is Tourmaline seen in faceted stones, or even carvings, but the actual crystals can be sliced and polished to show off the beautiful coloring of the material. One of the favorites of many collectors are "watermelon" Tourmaline (green and pink) slices. To be correct, true "watermelon" slices show a green exterior with a pink zone inside, so this one could be called an "inside out watermelon" slice. When Tourmaline crystals are sliced and polished like this, it gives the collector a great opportunity to see the unique way in which these crystals grow and change in color as they form in the pocket. As you can see, this very gemmy slice has a lovely pink "rind" surrounding an olive-green "core". If you look very closely, there is a TINY bit of green on the outermost exterior edge, but you have to hold the piece at just the right angle to see it. It's a beautiful piece for display, jewelry (wire-wrapping?) or whatever you wish.
