Item Description
Striking sprays of rich green, lustrous and translucent tourmaline crystals are dramatically set in the sculptural matrix on this very fine and showy old-timer from the classic pegmatites at Newry. The crytals in the front are up to 3.7 cm long. The artistic pegmatite matrix consists of large pearlescent muscovite plates, feldspar and smoky quartz. More tourmalines on the back side are a bonus. Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 445 and acquired from the Bradley's in the early 1950s. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record) and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien-Welt" November-December 2017). Old-time Newry tourmalines of this quality are RARE. This piece could easily be 100 years old.
