Item Description
Tourmalines are some of the most diverse and popular gems out there. They're one of the few gems that occur in natural multicolor stones as well. The majority of bicolor Tourmalines on the market today are found in places like Brazil or Afghanistan, but this stone hails from Mozambique! This particular gem was cut from a piece of rough found in 2007 in the Zambezia Province. The stone shows a very slight pale green color on one end, that turns into a distinct pink color which grades into a dark "smoky" hue, and gives way to a soft silvery-blue color throughout the rest of the gem. One of the most impressive aspects of this gem is the fact that it is only very very slightly included which is really good for Tourmaline. Tourmaline is classified as a "Type 3" gemstone, as inclusions are almost always present, and accepted by dealers and collectors, so when you find a stone like this, especially a multicolor gem, it's a real treat. I have to say that these stones are becoming harder and harder to find these days, and this is certainly one of the VERY few mutlicolor Tourmalines from Mozambique that I have offered in the auctions. It is a great naturally occurring tricolor gem for your collection. Valued at $169 high retail.
