Tourmaline (multi-color) (pictured in the Mineralogical Record)

Item Description

A beautiful gem quality trigonal crystal of multi-colored Tourmaline from Brazil. The piece is rather lustrous with good well-formed sharp faces and a mixture of a various pink and green hues, which when mixed together create additional colors with slight orange overtones. There is a slight "sliver" on one side of the crystal that shows a bit of silvery-colored chatoyancy for a nice touch. A lovely toenail sized example of these classic Tourmalines from one of the most productive places on Earth for the material. Specimen weight is 10.9 grams.
This piece is from the collection of Chris and Agatha Galas, and was pictured on page 104 in the 2017 issue of the Mineralogical Record featuring Mineral Collections in California. The caption for this specimen was erroneously printed with the piece measuring 5 cm(!), but it's actually a toenail.
