Tourmaline (multi-color) on Albite var: Cleavelandite

Over the last few decades, Afghanistan has been a major source of some of the finest Tourmaline crystals ever found, but oddly, neighboring Pakistan doesn't have nearly the amount of Tourmaline deposits. With that said, undoubtedly, the most famous Tourmaline locality in Pakistan is Stak Nala, which for many years has produced distinctive and beautiful multi-color crystals, often associated withe Quartz and Feldspar. This piece features an excellent, very sharp, glassy, gemmy polychrome Tourmaline with colors ranging from a colorless "Achroite" "cap" on the termination into a very thin vibrant green zone, then into a very dark green (virtually black) hue throughout the rest of the crystal sitting on a matrix consisting of bladed "flower"-like aggregates of Albite (var: Cleavelandite) that encompasses the entire Tourmaline crystal. The Tourmaline measures 1.8 cm. Found in 2005, it is a great thumbnails sized example of what makes Stak Nala Tourmalines so popular. No damage that I can find. It's hard to find display quality matrix Tourmalines in the thumbnail size range, so don't miss out on this little beauty.
