Tourmaline (multi-color) (ex Rich Kosnar Collection)

Item Description

This is an attractive gemmy crystal of old-time Brazilian Tourmaline from the Barra do Salinas District. The piece features multiple colors starting with a pink hue on the pyramidal termination that grades from slightly translucent with a semi-fibrous "cat's eye" appearance on one edge, and then transitions into a notably gemmy green zone in the center, and the base of the crystal actually has a slight orange color - which is rare for Tourmaline - ending with additional pinkish "cat's eye" coloring on the bottom. No major damage, outside of the fact that the base of the crystal is contacted where it separated from the pocket wall. A wonderful specimen of this beloved material. The piece dates back to the early to mid 1970s and is from the collection of noted dealer and collector Richard (Rich) Kosnar of Colorado. In Kosnar's early days as a dealer, he traveled frequently to Brazil to import gem minerals and rough, and eventually transitioned into importing all sorts of fine mineral specimens. Specimen weight is 8.3 grams.
