Tourmaline (floater, doubly terminated cluster)

An oddly elegant, twisted, strangely beautiful specimen that just stands out from other pink tourmalines from Afghanistan! This doubly-terminated elbaite cluster is glassy and translucent, with a rich teal color at the bottom 1 mm of the bottom termination as shown here to prove it is from Mawi (these tips sometimes occur there). The color is pleasing, not pale as are so many of these. Rather it is a vivid pink, not a pastel pink or a hot pink, but something unique to the best of this locality or some very few old San Diego crystals. The "sidecar" crystals" also are complete and beautiful. Pristine, complete 360 degrees all around, and highly unusual - better in person! The mass is 47 grams. From an older collection and probably from 1990s finds. It is hard to convey in photos how simple and complex this is, at the same time, as you hold it.
