Item Description

The Malkhan pegmatites have produced many translucent to opaque elbaites in recent years. This striking, large, parallel-growth crystal has very high luster, glassiness and the outer rind is translucent. The dramatic mottled to swirled color patterns range from light cranberry-red to dark cranberry-red. The unusually coalesced edges of the pinacoidal termination and the interior swirl pattern of the termination are very noteworthy. Complete all-around. Modest out-of-sight bruising is noted to one termination corner and contacting is noted at the base of this corner, but have no impact on the frontal display of this impressive large crystal. Very lovely and unusual. 379 grams. Ex Herb Obodda dealer stock and valued by Herb at $1200, five or more years ago. $1500-2000 is quite fair now. MUCH BETTER IN PERSON!!
