Item Description
A lot of people think of Tourmalines when it comes to Haddam Neck, and this piece is a good example of said material. This is a lovely Tourmaline from this well-known New England locality. It is a sharp, lustrous, gemmy, blue-green crystal with a rare yellow termination. Yellow is a rare color when it comes to Tourmalines, but Haddam Neck produced a fair amount of them. The piece is from the collection of Allen Heyl (a geologist from Colorado for whom the species Aheylite was named), who obtained it from dealer David Crawford in 1990, but the most important aspect of the piece is the fact that it once belonged to the great American mineral collector, Clarence Bement, and comes with one of his hand-written labels!! A great specimen with wonderful pedigree of this rarely seen material from Connecticut.
