Item Description

A wonderful matrix display specimen of Tourmaline from the famed Dara-e-Pech Pegmatite Field, Afghanistan (specifically labeled as coming from "Rhodist") featuring a fantastic, rich, yet almost electric green colored, GEM QUALITY, doubly-terminated Tourmaline crystal measuring 2.3 cm, aesthetically sitting on Smoky Quartz and bladed cream colored Albite matrix. The Tourmaline is complete on all sides, with zero damage and it glows with color when backlit. Each end of the Tourmaline has a slight yellow hue, a rare color for Pech and Tourmaline in general. While it's not uncommon to find Tourmaline crystals on Quartz and/or Albite from this area, it's incredibly rare to find doubly-terminated crystals like this, especially with such fine WATER-CLEAR clarity. The piece is also UN-repaired and displays quite nicely as you can see from the video. A really remarkable and frankly hard to find specimen from one of the most well-known Tourmaline localities in the world. Valued $5,000-$7,500.
From the collection of Jack Halpern No. 3457. Jack was born May 18, 1920 in Brooklyn, New York, but has been a long-time resident of San Francisco. He assembled one of the great mineral collections in the world encompassing over 3,200 specimens with a specific emphasis on color, quality, and style/aesthetics, which is evident in every piece. He admired specimens of all sizes from thumbnails to large cabinets and the vast majority of them rank from fine to world-class in their quality.
Above all else, Jack is considered to be the greatest gentleman in the modern era of mineral collecting. He is beloved by all those who have met him, and he truly is one of the most iconic figures in the mineral world. We recently acquired Jack's collection, and the VAST majority of these pieces will be offered here in the auctions, as we feel that everyone deserves and equal opportunity at acquiring these important, well-documented and fine quality pieces for their collections.
