Item Description
A lovely pair of sharp, lustrous, prismatic, trigonal black Tourmaline crystals, free of matrix from the Erongo Mountains. Traditionally, these crystals have been labeled as Schorl, but recent analysis has shown that some of them are actually the species Foitite, but since this piece has not been analyzed, we've left it simply as "Tourmaline". If you look closely, the terminations of both crystals have a slight "stepped" appearance, with an almost "fibrous" striated impression along the edges. The crystals are actually doubly-terminated as the base of the piece is re-crystallized ("re-healed") where it was separated from the pocket wall, so I'm calling this one a complete "floater", as I can find any damage or point of attachment. A really cool Tourmaline specimen for its interesting form, quality and the fact that it's complete all around. From the collection of Jelani Daniel by way of the Uli Bahmann collection.
