Tourmaline & Cleavelandite (classic locale)

Item Description

Two classic rich violet-red terminated rubellite tourmaline crystals are dramatically set on contrasting cleavelandite matrix on this sculptural and aesthetic small cabinet combination from the famous Anjanabonoina pegmatites of Madagascar. The lustrous, translucent, trigonal crystals are well-striated. The horizontal crystal is 5.0 cm long and the stout vertical prism is 3.5 x 3.3 x 2.8 cm. The crystals have a beautiful glow, when back lit. Anjanabonoina is famed for amazing multi-colored tourmaline crystals. See the 1989 Mineralogical Record article in Vol. 20, No. 3. The piece is undoubtedly from the main 1970s-80s collecting era. The one repair to the middle of the larger tourmaline is certainly acceptable in the context of pegmatite species.
