Item Description

A good quality and classic Tourmaline crystal from this famous pegmatite locality in San Diego County. The Himalaya Mine is one of the most well-known Tourmaline localities, not only in California, or even the US, but arguably worldwide. Some of the most distinctive and beautiful Tourmaline crystals ever found have come from this mine. This piece is a fine, sharp, lustrous, crystal featuring a strong pink hue throughout, with good internal gemminess. The termination is complete, and the only damage is on the base of the piece where it was separated from the pocket. A lovely example of these famous old crystals from decades ago. The specimen weight is 19.80 grams.
From the collection of legendary Colorado miner, Dave Bergman. Dave is now retired, but mined all over Colorado and was most famously the former the foreman and primary person in charge of recovering specimens at the famous Sweet Home Mine near Alma, Colorado during the late 1970s. He is also the maternal grandfather of Brian Kosnar. See Dave's photo mining at the Sweet Home on page 58 of Peter Bancroft's book "Gem and Crystal Treasures".
