Item Description

This mine has produced some of the most famous Tourmaline specimens in the world. This crystal is a very attractive specimen, with beautiful pink and green coloration, excellent transparency, and to top it off, it's a doubly-terminated "floater"! I can't say for sure which pocket this piece is from, but I'm certain that there are Himalaya experts out there who would know. Good luster on the prism faces, and a classic example of the "gem pencil" specimens from the Himalaya. A wonderful representatiave gem crystal from this historic locality. This specimen comes from the collection of Willard W. Wulff (1904-1998) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a prominent figure and collector of Colorado minerals. Wulff was one of the founding members of the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936. You can read Willard's bio on the Mineralogical Record website here ( http://www.minrec.org/labels.asp?colid=1528 ). The piece comes with a hand written note from Wulff who refers to it as a "pencil" from "Mesa Grande".
