Tourmaline (bi-color)

Tourmalines are some of the most diverse and popular gems in the world, not only because they often feature strong colors, but they are also one of the few gems that occur in natural multi-color stones as well. For years, a good number of bi-color Tourmalines on the market have come from from Brazil, and remain as some of the most attractive in the gem world. This "Emerald" cut gem shows a lovely pink color on one end with a beautiful green color on the other end. Becuase of the pink and green combo, sometimes this material is referred to as "Watermelon Tourmaline", but I personally like to use that term to refer to slices of Tourmaline with a green exterior and a pink interior, though I've seen a good number of stones like this labeled as "Watermelon"> The stone has some slight inclusions, but it's important to remember that Tourmaline is classified as a "Type 3" gemstone, which means inclusions are almost always present, and accepted by dealers and collectors. I have to say that these stones are becoming harder and harder to find these days (especially for decent prices) and they are facing competition with so many gem Tourmalines coming out of Afghanistan and Africa lately. A great naturally occurring bi-color gem for your collection. It's important to note that there are not many natural multi-color gems out there, and Tourmalines not only continue to increase in popularity, but in value as well, as we have seen the price increase nearly every year for the last decade.
