Item Description

Although this locale produces many specimens, most are not matrix specimens like this combo piece. This specimen has two bicolor elbaite tourmaline perched on a 9 cm-long, slightly smoky quartz crystal with good luster and translucence. The largest elbaite, at 7 cm in length, is glassy and translucent with a rich pink body capped by a 1 mm wide band of apple green at the termination. For good measure, the specimen is wreathed by white, bladed cleavelandite and two (unterminated) schorls, at the base. The elbaites and cleavelandite are pristine and the quartz crystal has only minor damage on the back side of the termination. All in all, this is a fine and fairly uncommon, matrix tourmaline that could fool folks as to thinking it was from the Himalaya Mine in California at first glance. Valued $1800-2500, ex Graw collection
