Item Description

Pearlescent mica has replaced most of a sculptural two-sided "wall" of parallel-growth tourmaline crystals. The pearlescence of some of the mica plates adds a super contrast and the floret of cleavelandite blades on one side is a nice accessory. The unaltered lustrous terminated tourmalines at the base are schorl with an outer rind of olive-green tourmaline. Ex Kay Ex Kay Robertson Collection # 5456 and acquired at the Long Beach Show from Bill Schneider in 1968. Kay is a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics (see the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017). A rare floater pseudomorph from an unknown pegmatite in the Jequitinhonha area of Minas Gerais.
